We Built an igloo in Cypress Bowl

It takes 2 people to pack the snow on top
Yesterday (Friday) we built a large igloo on Hollyburn Mountain — Cypress Bowl.

Maps to the site are in the previous blog entry.

The full trip report with some pictures is posted on ClubTread online hikers’ forum

Time to build an igloo!

Folks are ready to build an igloo. One of our group looked at the site, and there is lots of snow. We have a tentative plan to build this on Friday, December 29. Click Continue for the details and links to maps. Edit: click We Built an igloo for the story and pictures of the finished igloo.

Blogging seems to be a form of Internet viral networking

I believe that networking is more powerful than most people know, and this relatively new community of bloggers may allow thoughtful and articulate people reach a global audience — as well as discover and join a circle of like-minded people. While huge numbers of people do this as a hobby, there are many who see professional reasons to blog.

Since this blog is still an exploration, consider this article an interim field report. There are excellent references (links) included. (Click Continue for the rest of this report.)

Internet Explorer browsers could not see my sidebar

A friend using Internet Explorer on a wintel machine could not see my sidebar. With the help of the WordPress forum, and some luck I found out why and what to do about it. Click Continue below for details.

How long will material posted at WordPress.com and Flickr be available on the web?

Both WordPress.com and Flickr offer free space. There does not seem to be a time limit for the information that we post at those sites. This actually seems to be an advantage over maintaining (and paying for) our own web sites. (Click continue for more on this subject.)

Here is how I was taught to make a pepperoni pizza

This has nothing to do with the Salish Sea, but a friend taught me how to make an outstanding pizza. It took some practice, but the result is worth the effort. Click Continue for the details (recipe).

There is no Cypress Mountain around here – there is Cypress Bowl, part of Cypress Provincial Park

The ski resort in Cypress Provincial Park has branded itself Cypress Mountain. The name refers to this commercial enterprise, not to any real hill — and yet you’ll hear people talk about Cypress Mountain as if it is a geological feature. Click the link below to find out more about this.

Changes to the Salish Sea Theme

Salish Sea Sapphire ThemeThat is how the blog appeared until a couple of days ago. I hope you find what you see to be an improvement. The new theme is called K2 Lite, and the banner image at the top is brighter and shows more of the Salish Sea.

ecto is now our blogging tool. It’s not perfect but it does the job

Since the original purpose of this blog was to investigate the world of blogging, I figure that there should be a post to announce that we have just purchased ecto. That’s the announcement. There are more thoughts, so I will ramble on in the next pane (click the Continue reading link for more on this subject.)

More igloo plans

Img 57 Rjb 2Ndcourse 80-1I did mention that folks want us to build an igloo? Is this work? Or fun? It must be fun because there was another igloo-building petition tonight. So, depending on the weather, it is likely that we will head up to the snow in Cypress Bowl sometime between Christmas and New Years.

What is the issue with the weather? Fresh snow, or wet snow, would be nice. Crunchy, icy, crusty snow is hard to manage.

All of this is to say that if you are interested in seeing how one of these igloos is built, or you’d like to participate, let me know.
