Winter has gone at sea level

Ferry-home_2521_22I was in town today. The temperature (at the airport) reached 8 degrees C. Most of the snow near sea level has suddenly vanished. It was almost a sunny day with only a thin veil of cloud. The picture was taken on the Ferry out of Horseshoe Bay just before 4 PM. That’s West Vancouver on the left, and Bowen Island on the right. Below the sun, in the distance, are the hills of Vancouver Island.

I8-inches_2504_30It is hard to believe that it was only 6 days ago when I was clearing eight inches of snow off of the car.

The good news is that winter is still in full force above 3000 feet on the local hills. I expect to try out my telemark skis this weekend.
