The snow has melted at sea level, but I could see that it was snowing up on the high slopes.
The picture was taken on the ferry heading for the mainland Saturday morning. The highest mountain is Brunswick, at 5,855 feet. New snow is falling up there.
It is a short trip up the hill from West Vancouver to Cypress Bowl Provincial Park. We parked by the road at an altitude of about 2,600 feet.
As you can see, there is a respectable amount of snow for this early in the season. I don’t have skiing pictures… the camera hates being wet. It began to rain as soon as we began skinning up the Hikers’ trail on Hollyburn Ridge. About half way to the Water Boards the precipitation turned to wet snow. Since we were clad in Gortex, the wetness was not a problem, and we enjoyed our first turns of the 2006-2007 winter.
Already I am being petitioned to build an igloo. We build large sturdy igloos. This year, if we continue to have snow up here, that may be a good group project for the holidays.
Some people don’t like wet days. When we came down to sea level, you can see the marvellous mood of Howe Sound. Lovely!
