36 hour power outage on Bowen Island

On Friday night it was raining. Suddenly, about 10:30 PM, the west coast rain turned violent. There was a deluge of water pounding down and for a few moments the wind gusted and howled. The squall didn’t last long but when it was over Bowen Island was in darkness. Friday and Saturday nights were cold for those without generators or wood-burning stoves (many people). Sunday morning (earlier today) the rain had stopped, and shortly after 10:30 AM the power was restored. It took about an hour before the restoration was constant and reliable. The temperature at sea level had risen from freezing at midnight to 9 degrees C.
