Snow last week in the hills

From downtown, when the skies cleared, it was obvious that the recent precipitation left fresh snow on the hills. By the time we arrived to ski on Sunday there had been a time of rain and then freezing, so that the new snow had a thick crust. The early afternoon sun softened the south facing aspects.

On our way up, a group of igloo-builders were just beginning to shovel snow. When we returned, the snow-dome was complete, most of the builders were inside, and the finishing touches were being made to the entrance tunnel. Nice work! Our group has not built an igloo here since December, 2006.
