Foggy Easter Weekend Skiing

Fog: no view at Hollyburn Summit

Fog: no view at Hollyburn Summit

I could hear it raining when I awoke. Backcountry skiers are supposed to be able to ski in all conditions, and rain is only a little disagreeable. It was not an excuse to turn off the alarm and snooze on this Saturday morning. Okay, we decided go for the exercise, and only to nearby Hollyburn Mountain. As we entered Cypress Bowl it was raining, but there was some fresh snow on the old dirty stuff. When we parked the rain was almost snow… and there was a nice layer of fresh snow as we started to skin up. In fact, it was a fine, mild, late-winter day. Very few other people were enjoying this splendid day on this lovely trail.

Here is a very short clip of skiing one of our favourite off piste chutes near the top of Hollyburn.

There was no rain on the Bowen Island Golf Course yesterday! Sure was a lot warmer and dryer and a LOT easier to get to!

Hi Murray, I’m delighted that you were among toe people who enjoy the outdoors and were not complaining about the weather. Best wishes for the Easter Weekend!

    Hi Dad,

Odd tug of nostalgia this time when I read that you’d gone up to the hills. I’m more of a city girl now, but I suppose there must still be remnants of the back country munchkin left in me!

    Lots of Love
